A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
