Blues Boss Maresca Dismisses Man City Links as Pure Rumour
Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca has branded recent reports linking him with a move to Manchester City as "100% speculation".
The Italian manager, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man at the Etihad, responded to the ongoing speculation about his future.
Maresca, appointed Chelsea boss in the summer of 2024, has a contract running until 2029, with a potential extra year option.
"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is completely unfounded," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is little room for such distractions."
He further elaborated, Primarily, because I have a contract here until 2029. And my focus, I said many times, is just about this club and I'm very proud to be here. But again, it's rumour. One week ago I was connected to Juventus in Italy. So I don't pay attention because I know that is not true."
Chelsea, currently sitting in fourth position in the top flight, are set to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a lunchtime fixture.
Strain After Recent Remarks
Maresca's latest statement follow in the wake of he referred to a recent 48-hour period as his most difficult since joining Chelsea.
Those original words had sparked considerable talk of a possible disagreement between the coach and the club's ownership hierarchy.
When pressed if he had since spoken with the club's sporting directors, Maresca responded, "We are in the same building, so we talk about different things. But about the Everton press conference, no."
The manager did confirm he would "absolutely" remain at the club next season and urged the fans to keep backing the team".
In more positive news, Maresca revealed that injured forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back sooner than expected, possibly available for a match against Aston Villa later this month.
