Crowds also occupied adjacent streets and tried to enter parliament, where the administration had initially planned the community homage.

Political Heritage and Community Devotion

Although primarily recognized as an government critic, Odinga assumed the role of head of government in 2008 and also struck a political pact with the leader last year in a public service marked by shifting alliances.

He generated intense commitment among adherents, notably in his ethnic group based in western Kenya, many of whom believe he was denied the presidency by vote manipulation.
