Followers Demand Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are calling for that a person who breached a fence and touched the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral clip depicts the Australian man bypassing photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers made its way down a event pathway accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "free after being arrested", though legal records showed that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account includes videos of him interrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is evidently a legal violation," commented an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Past Trauma
Many fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote another response on Instagram.
Some fans also faulted event staff at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while others demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande looked surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of fans had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore mall, including a number who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the unlikely bond between two very different characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received 10 Oscar nominations, earning several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
