The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the production team.

The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."

The last series concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.

However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had countless fans watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."

He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "the role of a career".

"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.

The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
