Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
