New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” the coach said. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD released security footage Monday of a suspect in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is currently under review and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a great deal” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a newborn.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “I mean, he attends every game. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
