Soccer Analyst Chris Sutton Battles Artist Murs in Top Flight Forecasts

Arsenal's 10-game victorious streak came to an end by the Black Cats prior to the global hiatus, but will the Premier League frontrunners recover against north London rivals Spurs this weekend?

"{I believe like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham currently but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a plan for this match," remarked football specialist Chris Sutton.

"The Spurs manager will attempt to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating best this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's side usually still manage to win."

The analyst is forecasting results for all 380 Premier League fixtures this term, against artificial intelligence, readers and a variety of special visitors.

For the twelfth round, he takes on singer Olly Murs, who is a United fan.

Murs' new record, Knees Up, is available on the weekend.

Football and Family Experiences

Murs is a skilled footballer as well as a successful artist and has been a featured player of several charity football matches over time - but he is not planning a professional return as a player.

"{I actually played in a charity game the other night for a friend of mine," he said. "My team was trailing 3-1 when I came off in the second half, and they proceeded to win 4-3, so you can interpret that what you want!

"I still love football, but I hurt my joint a few years ago and it even now hasn't fully recovered. I wish I could play more but the unpredictability of the game means it's too risky for me in my profession to do it properly again.

"Additionally I am forty-one now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very happy not playing football and I am gearing up for the moment that my daughter or son chooses to play instead."

Murs and his spouse Amelia Tank have a young family, their daughter and Albert, and he is prepared to follow in his father's footsteps by taking on the role of their manager.

"I won't force football on our children but I've previously told Amelia that if they happen to get the passion for it then I will have to go and get my manager qualifications - and I will probably be coaching their weekend football side," he added.

"I watched my relatives play a lot, and I really got into it, and I obviously was involved with a soccer team for a period too.

"My dad coached with us when I was a kid, which is probably where I inherited it. He coached our side for several years and had great fun with it. That could be the next step for me as well, and I am excited to it!"

Premier League Predictions

Saturday, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea might have to be patient for their star's comeback from fitness issues but their offense is already stronger with Pedro and Liam Delap both back fit.

I still think this game will be fairly close, however. Burnley are disciplined and their sole home defeats so far have been against Liverpool and the Gunners.

It suggests a one-all draw to me, but I am in fact going to choose Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third consecutive Premier League win in a row.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

Olly's prediction: The Blues will be superior. 1-3

AI's prediction: 0-2

Bournemouth have been defeated in their past two matches - albeit both of them were on the road - but they got absolutely spanked by Aston Villa last time out which shocked me.

On the other hand, the Hammers won two in a row before the international break and, although both of those fixtures were at home, they do look strong again.

The Hammers' sole on the road win this campaign came at Forest in August, when their manager Nuno was previously Forest manager.

So, what on earth do I predict here - will it be West Ham continuing their streak under Nuno, or Bournemouth bouncing back?

I will go with the Cherries, because I think what occurred against Aston Villa was a anomaly.

Sutton's prediction: 2-0

Olly's outlook: The home team are performing strongly but West Ham have picked up under Nuno. 2-2

The algorithm's pick: 1-1

Brentford were seen as one of the frontrunners for the drop before the campaign began, but they have surprised a several people under their manager and are in fine fettle with three in their past four games.

A family member told me to select Bees forward Igor Thiago in my fantasy soccer team a few weeks ago and, guess what, I ignored the advice.

The forward will likely find the net again on Saturday but I am nonetheless not going to pick him or back Brentford at Brighton's ground.

They have not had much success on the road this term, and Brighton are consistently strong at home. Brentford will attempt to attack on the break but I feel the home manager's team pose much more of a danger.

Sutton's forecast: 2-1

The singer's view: It could be a match where you think there is going to be a lot of goals but it in reality turns out to be rather tight. 1-1

The computer's prediction: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a huge game for Fulham, who have suffered defeat in five of their past six games.

Fulham have got lots of talent in their team but it nonetheless seems like they could be sucked into a drop zone fight.

As for Sunderland, well they are the unexpected success of the top flight season so far.

The away side's display in the two-all draw with the Gunners last time out was excellent. We have not seen anyone else rough up the North London side like that this season, and Sunderland were more than a match for them.

The sensible thing would be to support the visitors here, because they are obviously capable of disrupting Fulham up too and, the last time they were in west London, they defeated the Blues at the close of last month.

But I am not choose that. Rather, I really need to carry on going against the away team with my forecasts. I am claiming a lot of credit for their good results because they clearly love to prove me wrong.

Considering Fulham's home record, the only team they have been defeated by is the league leaders. Their manager's side will be extremely eager for a positive outcome, so I am going to predict they will secure three much-needed points.

The expert's forecast: 1-0

Olly's prediction: I'm aware Sunderland are performing strongly and additionally that Fulham are on a bad run... but Fulham have still been respectable at home this campaign. 2-0

The algorithm's prediction: 2-0

This is a hard one to call. The Reds have lost seven of their last ten games in every tournament, but could they be one of the sides who profit from the {international break|
