Thrice-crowned MVP Nikola Jokic suffers a 'gut-wrenching' leg setback.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffered a "devastating" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 against the Heat.
The star player was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half in an accidental contact with fellow Nugget Jones.
His teammate stepped on the foot of the big man, and he promptly fell to the ground grabbing his knee.
The veteran player, that leads the league season in rebounds and dimes, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before sustaining the injury.
The player will undergo an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the seriousness of the injury.
"Right away, he understood something was wrong," commented Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever that suffers an injury, it's tough to see, particularly a player as talented as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."
"We'll move on together. Clearly, right now, I'm more concerned about him personally and the disappointment of experiencing an event of that nature."
